Final tube removed, echocardiogram

~

Tuesday, June 9, 2009, Laura drove to the HCI for two appointments. She met with Dr. Agarwal first who asked Vicki, the nurse who has been with Laura each visit, to remove the last of the drain tubes. Laura is really happy to have those tubes out.
Dr. Agarwal didn’t have much information for us. He is the plastic surgeon, so he checked out the expander and said it looked OK so far. He will start filling it with saline on the next visit.

Laura was also asked to have an echocardiogram to evaluate her overall heart health and make sure she is ready to start the chemo this week. It was basically an ultrasound of her heart. She could see it beating, but wasn’t given much information. We assume that will come later. The chemo is scheduled to start on Friday, June 19 (Happy Birthday, Pam!).
Laura will have four chemo sessions, each three weeks apart. So, if it all goes as scheduled, the last chemo dose will be given on August 21, 2009. We still don’t know whether or not they will advise Laura to go through radiation. That question will likely be answered on June 25 when Laura meets with Dr. Kokeny, the radiation oncologist. Life goes on. Hopefully, Laura will be completely done with this by the time BYU plays their first football game this fall. Go Cougars!
