Feeling better again

~
Laura met with the reconstruction doctor, Dr. Jay Agarwal, at the U of U hospital on Tuesday, August 11, 2009. She was given another fill-up of the expander fluid saline. They also discussed the new schedule of events now that radiation has been added. She will get one more fill-up and then wait until the radiation is complete and her body has had at least three months to recover before the reconstruction surgery will take place. This was expected but not what Laura wanted to hear. It will go into at least February now. The surgery will be an 8 hour affair with an expected 4 night stay at the hospital. It is a complicated process but the doctor assured her that he has done it often and has had very good results.

Today marks 2 weeks since Laura’s most recent chemo therapy. She is feeling much better and is getting more energetic. One more dose of chemo on August 21 and that part of the process will be done.

For a little insight into Laura’s mind, here is some of what she discussed with me while we were on a walk this evening. Since her final day of radiation is scheduled for the day before Halloween, she has plans for Halloween already. If her hair is not growing in yet, she will dye her head black and be a bowling ball. If the hair has started to return she will dye her head white and be a scrub brush.
