Laura’s final chemo treatment was Friday, the 21st of August. It was quite the celebration. After meeting with Dr. Shaun Donegan, an assistant to the oncologist, Dr. Buys, Laura was given another fill up in the expander fromby Dr. Agarwal’s assistant and then went to the infusion room for the final time. Her blood work showed that her white cell count was a little lower than it has been, but still well into the safe for chemo range.

At the end of the chemo, the nurses all gathered around and sang a song something like “Congratulations to you…” sung to the tune of “Happy Birthday”. They also presented her with a “Graduation Certificate” recognizing her completion of chemotherapy. They also presented her with a fleece blanket. There are some wonderful people in the health care business that genuinely care about their patients.
Three days have passed since the chemo and Laura is doing fairly well. The nausea is being held in check most of the time by the anti nausea medications, but she is extremely tired most of the time. Mornings are best but afternoons are tough. She gets more and more tired as the day goes on in spite of naps and rests throughout the day. The next scheduled event is the CAT Scans on the 15th of September in preparation for the radiation treatments that start a few days later.
