Chemo Session 2 of 4

-
Laura had her second chemo therapy treatment on Friday, July 10, 2009. We drove down to the HCI and first had an appointment with the oncologist, Dr. Saundra Buys. She had blood drawn and checked to make sure it was OK for the treatment. The two main things they checked were the white blood cell and hemoglobin counts. They were 7.1 and 12.8, both within limits so they went ahead with the chemo treatments. Dr. Buys gave Laura the option to switch anti-nausea medications, but Laura decided not to make any changes.

The Chemo infusion went smoothly, other than a little trouble getting a good location for the IV. She had to get poked twice before they found a suitable place.

Laura has now taken the anti-nausea medications for the prescribed four days following the chemo. She has been a little sick, but mostly just very tired. She had a little more energy today and seems to be coming along pretty well. In the picture, Laura is wearing the “Curves” shirt given to her by her friends at “Curves” where she works. It says “Laps for Laura”. They will be walking laps in honor of Laura at an upcoming fundraiser supporting cancer patients. It has been amazing to see firsthand the amount of support and caring given to our family over the past couple of months. We have been very blessed.

  1. Thank you for sharing such a personal trial. It is so inspiring to see the support you have and your willingness to take charge of your care. I am grateful that things are going as well as can be expected. It was humbling to see you at the cancer walk. You look great and upbeat. My prayers are with you.
